The 10 Commandments is a set of rules which some of us applied in our lives. We follow these rules in order to live harmoniously. Yes, these rules set us in a way that we do not interfere and conflict with others. This set of rules is very much applicable in our personal lives, but did you know these rules also apply in our field of business, especially when it comes to branding our company in social media sites?

Marketers, lend me your ears as I give you the 10 Commandments in Social Media Marketing!

1. Thou shalt have no other connections before me

You are your brand and you should always remember that! Every action that “you” (as a user) make with your brand’s name on it will be vital in your reputation. So whatever happens, think before you do anything.

2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any other identities or graven image

Never make more than one brand profile on the same social networking site (SNS). This will surely cause confusion with your brands and products.

3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Brand in vain

Your brand’s reputation in social media is the very core of your online existence. once you carelessly posted, commented or done anything that could ruin your brand’s reputation may destroy your brand fully.

4. Remember the take breaks in a day, and keep it holy

Showing that your brand exists in the online world is not a sin, but not having a break in a day is as bad as it looks like. Do have breaks for the day and let your contents work it out for you. Always posting something new for the whole day could waste any momentum build-ups that your content might have created for you.

5. Honour thy comments and suggestion

Remember; listening is one of the key aspects in branding with the use of social media. Treat each comments and suggestions that your brand receives seriously. May it be a troll comment or not, it will always say something about your brand.

6. Thou shalt not kill a day without posting

Never let a day in your social media sites without having any activity at all. one idled day could mean a lot when it comes to trends, users activities and the like when it comes to social media marketing.

7. Thou shall not treat every social media site as the same and be mixed-up

Each social networking sites in the internet have their own features that could kill another website. Accidentally posting something in the wrong social networking site medium could result to content inefficiency, resulting to wasted time, effort and chances of grabbing attention in your social media sites.

8. Thou shalt not steal ideas from others

Your social media audiences usually hang out in your sites longer than you think. You may not know it, but they are pretty much familiar with every post that they see in their feeds. Copying or stealing ideas from other sources without crediting them could hurt your brand’s reputation badly.

9. Thou shalt not give false information about your brand

Be true to your brand and your products. Do not cheat with your customers by bringing up features and other things that are really not part of your brand.

10. Thou shalt not hurt, destroy or offend other brands with the use of social media

Never ever use dirty tactics when it comes to social media marketing. This will be seen by your audience as rude. Also, most users root up for the brand who is “victimized” in this matter, so it will be a lose-lose situation.

So that’s it, fellow marketers! Follow these 10 commandments in social media marketing and keep them holy!
