While the jury’s still out on a better way to pluralize don’t, it’s a very useful graphic. We’ve taken a look at 11 major Social Media networks and explain various ways to use them for your business strategy. The Social Networks included in this infographic are:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • LinkedIn
  • Google+
  • Youtube
  • Flickr
  • Instagram
  • Pinterest
  • Reddit
  • Tumblr
  • Slideshare

The uses of the social network are based on customer communication, brand exposure, site traffic and SEO. I feel this guide is very important because each network poses different uses for content. All can be viable, but of course just because a particular social media avenue exists doesn’t mean it will necessarily be a surefire way to win conversions or to justify spending hours upon hours of your company time using it. In other words, don’t just use a social channel just because it seems like everyone else is doing so. You must make sure it’s within your business goals and strategy first and then proceed.

The timeless “thumbs up/meh/thumbs down” method was used to rank all the networks; it’s easy to understand and gets through the clutter to get to the point. Analyze each network with your own goals and ideas in mind and see just how relevant each network may be to your business strategy or plan for 2014. I found it particularly interesting to look at networks such as Google+ and LinkedIn and see how they have the potential to help your business in conjunction with heavy hitters such as Facebook and Twitter. Of course, that doesn’t mean standards such as Facebook aren’t still relevant – it’s all about finding your niche.
